Exploring abstract qualities of a letterform (in my case, the Baskerville "a") and experimenting with the relationships that develop between positive and negative space. Pushing to go beyond obvious solutions, while constricting to limitations (no overlapping, no altering, no resizing).
Working with rotation, rhythm and repetition in mind.
Developing a concept for a new typeface whose forms relate to an 9x9 square grid. Staying true to the constraints of the grid, curves or true diagonals are to be avoided. Playing with legibility.
Considering proportion, weight and consistency.
